Rooted in Family. Driven by Service.

Born in an era of great struggle and transformation, Judith learned early on that love, faith, and perseverance are the cornerstones of a meaningful life. Since the 1960s, she has stood up for causes bigger than herself marching for civil rights, feeding neighbors in need, lifting up voices too often silenced, and showing up wherever justice called her.

But the core of who Judith is begins at home.

She is a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend and she finds deep joy in the beautiful complexity of her large and extended family. She celebrates the diversity of her loved ones: their traditions, their laughter, their differences, and their dreams. For Judith, family means more than shared bloodlines, it means shared responsibility, acceptance, and unconditional love.

At every holiday table and every family gathering, Judith makes sure no seats sit empty, because she desires to share the blessings with others. That brings her true joy. Judith encourages and embraces everyone for exactly who they are around that table. That same spirit of inclusion and care shapes how she desires to show up for her community.

Judith is also deeply grateful for the love and support of her husband, James, a retired college professor and her partner in faith and purpose. With every step she’s taken from grassroots activism to civic leadership, James has stood beside her, believing in her work and championing her strength.

“No matter what role I’m in, whether I’m helping a neighbor, mentoring a student, or advocating for justice my friends and husband remind me who I’m doing it for,” Judith says. “They are my anchor and my inspiration.”

Judith’s life isn’t defined by titles or accolades. It’s defined by service, by love, and by a calling to stand up and speak out, not just for herself, but for everyone who believes in a better Alabama.
